Love them or loathe them, job interviews are an essential part of the recruitment process. A chance
for the employer to get to know you and for you to meet them and gain an insight into their
business.
For many people though, a job interview can be stressful. What to wear, what to say…and then of
course there’s the wait to see if you are the chosen candidate.
To help you through the process we’ve come up with our top 3 tips to help you nail that job
interview.
1. Presentation
First impressions count so make sure you make the effort to be well groomed and dressed in
appropriate clothing. When greeting the recruiter, make sure your handshake is firm and you
make eye contact. Eye contact is also important throughout the interview to ensure they know
you are listening and interested.
2. Preparation
Preparation is key. Research the company and the industry for the job you are being screened
for, making special note of anything recent in the media. Also take the time to anticipate the
questions you may be asked and prepare answers for each. Your experience will sell your
suitability for the role so think about the tasks you have completed in other roles, the projects
you have worked on or managed as well as any issues that have occurred in previous workplaces
and the way you have handled them.
3. Practice
As cheesy as it sounds, practice in front of the mirror or with a friend. The more you rehearse
your answers the more confident you will be when you enter the interview room.
One last and final must…be on time! Always allow enough time for travel to the interview location
so that you arrive at least 5-10 minutes early. Running late is not a good look and will have you
behind the 8 ball before you even start.
Good luck!
